The polytechnic students dive club Kupla is a noble association of diving engineering students. However there are quite a few graduate members and even few humanists nowadays. Kupla was founded in 1979. Over the three decades of activity Kupla has become one of the largest and most virile student associations in Otaniemi. We are also proud to mention to be amongst the largest dive clubs in Finland.
Kupla is a member of national Finnish Divers’ Federation, which is the top organization of Finnish dive clubs.
During the summer time Kupla organizes diving camps mainly to Gulf of Finland, but we do occasional trips to various mines, quarries and lakes. Winter is time for After Dive activities but also time to go ice diving in case of favorable icy conditions. Over the years members of Kupla have organized several trips to warm and clear waters of the south such as the Red Sea and we have visited all of the seas in the worlds expect the Dead Sea.
Our club facilities are located in Jämeräntaival 1, where you can store and maintain your own scuba gear. Our filling station provides not only air but trimix gas blends for technical divers. Facilities can also be used for educational and recreational events. We have two motor boats which are suitable for diving purposes for our members. We have also some rental gear (regulators, BCD’s) for members to hire.
Kupla organizes actively several scuba courses according to CMAS instructions. Entry level (P1) open water course, Advanced (P2) course, Nitrox- and drysuit courses are held annually. Dive leader (P3) and Assistantant Instructor courses are held in every second year. In addition, we have other supporting courses, such as Rescue Diver, first-aid and emergency oxygen provider and Trimix gas blender courses.
Members of Kupla are active players of underwater rugby in national level. In addition to national event Kupla takes part in international tournaments all over the world. If you are interested, please join our weekly practices by the pool.
Scuba diving as a hobby is easy to start. Explore the underwater life in our try-outs and get inspired to participate our entry-level basic dive course, which is held every spring.
